Power Post 4! /
Power Post 4!
Nathan swears Jamie punched him in the chest after viewing NOW-ID’s Nowhere. It wasn’t soft, but it wasn’t that hard either. It was a punch of joy. Jamie does that, for us, puts us back, makes us think and laugh and grounds us all at the same time, and we LOVE that we are playing together.
On June 25, Jamie will show a dozen(ish) original works as part of our setting, an outdoor gallery on an outdoor gallery, and they will be for sale along with prints.
Jamie Clyde is a text-based conceptual artist addressing critical issues and socio-political disparities embedded in American culture. With humor and satire, she is juxtaposing digital and painting techniques, developing a personal practice working with film transfer, digital photography, paint and poetry to critique imbalances of power and culture consumptions. Jamie draws from vintage magazines, old Hollywood imagery and Pop Art perspectives to create concept series built on collective psychological experiences. In her work, she is the observer and the player simultaneously. Her messages dig further into narratives tackling inequality, feminism, collective consumption habits, and climate change.
Jamie Clyde studied at the University of Utah. After receiving a BFA in photography, she moved to New York City to pursue her art career. Her work has been presented in solo exhibitions and numerous group exhibitions across the country. Jamie has been featured in Hyperallergic, Artnet News and Untitled magazine. She now works and lives in Salt Lake City, Utah. #nowidworks#mavenslc #saltlakecity #allyup2022 #nowidslc #powerwomen
Continuing our posts on powerful women! /
Continuing our posts on powerful women, we are delighted to be working with our dear friend and dancer Tara McArthur for our upcoming piece on June 25th. She has a long history with Charlotte and it is a deep and ever evolving collaboration that we look forward to sharing with YOU! Show/Ticket pages to launch on Mother’s Day.
Tara McArthur is a dance artist and movement teacher based in San Francisco, CA. Her performance credits include The Feather Theory (Raja Feather Kelly), Hope Mohr Dance, NOW-ID (Charlotte Boye-Christensen), Little Seismic Dance Company (Katie Faulkner), Gerald Casel & Dancers (SF), Risa Jaroslow & Dancers, and Keith Johnson/Dancers. She was a member of the Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company from 2008-2014, where she performed in both original works and repertory by Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Johannes Weiland, Daniel Charon, Doug Varone, Bill T. Jones, John Jasperse, and Susan Marshall, among others. She was also a part of the Centennial Tour of the work of Alwin Nikolais, touring across the US., France, and Italy. Tara holds a BFA from California State University Long Beach, and hails from Nevada City, California.
Continuing our posts on powerful women, dancer Sydney Sorenson joins us for her fourth work with Charlotte, growing from shared experiences at Ririe Woodbury back in 2007(!), studies at Tisch/NYU, and work in Texas. We are so excited to work with her again! Show/Ticket pages to launch on Mother’s Day.
Sydney Sorenson is originally from Salt Lake City, Utah, where she received her training with Utah Regional Ballet’s pre-professional program, later transitioning into modern and contemporary dance via Ririe-Woodbury’s Step-Up Program. Sydney graduated Cum Laude from the University of Utah in 2013 with a BFA in Modern Dance and then had the pleasure of working with L.A. Contemporary Dance Company for two years under the direction of Kate Hutter.
In 2017 Sydney received her MFA from New York University Tisch School of the Arts. While in school she was hand selected to create work as a part of the Masters Performance Workshop in place of the faculty concert. She also had the opportunity to dance alongside Kidd Pivot at City Center led by Crystal Pite. Sydney has worked with choreographers such as Alan Hineline, Alex Little, Bonnie Story, Jaci Royal, Ori Flomin, Ricky Palomino, Sidra Bell, Talia Favia, and Tokyo Inouye. She is known for her role in The Mistle-Tones, has been seen on A Chance to Dance, and has previously toured with Helene Fischer, performed with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Grimes, and the Utah Jazz. Currently, Sydney guests as a performer with NOW-ID under the direction of Charlotte Boye-Christensen and is an Assistant Professor of Dance at Allan Hancock College in California.

We had a wonderful experience last week working with the students at the Dance Academy at Waterford school on the creation of a new dance on film project. We have had a long relationship with the school over the past several years and wanted to make sure that we provided their students with a challenging, qualitative experience. They stepped up to the challenge!
